Has anyone else encountered this error and were you able to find a solution?

Thank you for any advice you may be able to offer that may help me resolve this issue.

I have following doubts, can you please help me.

1. Can I connect all 6 databases to SSAS and keep data updated(automatically).

2. What tools I need to move data from SQl DB to SSAS?

3. Do I need to install on-premise gateway to connect SSAS with Power BI Service or Power BI Desktop

ODBC Connection Error - Driver Error

I've been trying to connect an ODBC database to the gateway in Power BI service.

I've been successful in connecting to this in Power BI Desktop, i've tried to replicate this process using the Power BI Service gateway.

It is returning an error complaining about locating the ODBC driver, I have confirmed I referenced the driver name correctly as seen in Power BI desktop:

Attempts in Power BI Gateway, windows authentication is used on power bi desktop to connect to the data source so i've used the same credentials:

This error is returned:

I have confirmed the DSN and driver name in ODBC Data Source Admin.

Ghost records showing up in Power BI

$

Hello,

I have an integration between Power BI and QuickBooks Enterprise, using the QQUBE tool as a connector. It has worked fine for a long time, and I have developed a very mature model for a company. Recently, ghost records have shown up in the Power BI model that don't actually exist in QuickBooks. Any ideas? Here is some background:

A batch of invoices was entered into QB, and then subsequently deleted. Those records do not affect financials in QB, and literally, do not exist using any search parameters, but when I refresh my Power BI model, the records show up. The (ghost)dollar amount is so large that the model is basically unpresentable at this point. Here are some steps I have taken to try to fix, to no avail:

1) I have gone back to an older iteration (many different ones, from many different months) of the .PBIX file, and refreshed data from there, the same thing happens.

2) Within QB, I have used utilities such as "verify data", "rebuild data", "sort lists", and round tripped to a portable file. Nothing has fixed the problem.

If you have any ideas on a solution, it would be greatly appreciated!

On-prem enterprise gateway installation best practice

$

I have been reading the various Power BI On-Prem Enterprise Gateway installation docs, mainly https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-onprem-indepth.

"If you have an Analysis Services data source, you’ll need to install the gateway on a computer joined to the same forest/domain as your Analysis Services server.

The closer the gateway is to the server, the faster the connection will be. If you can get the gateway on the same server as the data source, that is best to avoid network latency between the gateway and the server."

We want to use Power BI on-prem gateway to connect Power BI to our SQL Server instance running on Windows Server.

The article clearly states that if possible, install the gateway on my data source (Windows Server running SQL Server).

However, there is hesitancy from our infrastructure team who are concerned with the Power BI Gateway Service taking up server resources because it is polling Azure Service Bus and handling Power BI queries. Is this a valid concern? Should we lean towards installing Power BI On-Premise Gateway on a dedicated server, or should we be content with simply letting it run on our SQL Server instance.

PBI Enterprise Gateway: Can it connect to both SharePoint Online and On-Prem data sources yet?

$

Right now, per Microsoft's guidance, we are running BOTH PBI Enterprise Gateway AND PBI Personal Gateway to accomplish making datasets with both on-prem and SPO data sources... A limitation of the PBI Enterprise Gateway has been you can either manipulate ONLY on-prem data in a single dataset/dashboard, and ONLY SPO/online data in a single dataset/dashboard, but you CANNOT use both in one dataset/dashboard....

This is frustrating and obnoxious to do, and the PBI Personal Gateway is just that - a personal gateway and can only be managed/used by one account.

Has MS updated the PBI Enterprise Gateway to allow the use of both on-prem and online data sources in a single dataset/dashboard yet? I know I'm not alone in this request...

Connecting to a Plex Database from Power Pivot in MS Excel

$

Hello,

Connecting to Plex or even using the tables is completely new to me.  I'm a SQL novice, but pick up on things quickly.

I'm trying to connect Power Pivot in MS Excel to Plex like I have been able to do for MS Access databases.  However, I'm receiving the error below:

PlexConnectionError.PNG

I'm able to actually connect to Plex, because you can see above that I'm pulling in what looks like 6,397 tables.  The problem is that I'm not getting any columns.  There should be a preview of the table where the error message is showing.  Below is the Advanced Editor statement and what I see in the Query editor:

PlexConnectionError2.PNG

Any help would be greatly appreciated even if it is just assumptions or guesses that might lead me in the correct direction.

My understanding is that nobody else is using MS PowerPivot or MS PowerQuery to connect to Plex.

Thanks,

James

Could date condition work with KPI and Pivot Table?

$

Hi All,

I have a requirement to color cell background based on condition date. This requirement cannot be done using conditional formating since i would to compare the date, not the value. I also already try to use DAX function. Unfortunately DAX doesnt work for formating the table, just able to compare the date. Then i try to use R script, but it useless since i have many row and coloumn plus i cannot formating based on the color.

Then i further to search and google, i found another way rather than color the cell which is put the indicator as picture below.

The condition are :

when the passed datelie, the indicator will color in red.

when the dateline is today, the indicator show yellow color.

when the dateline in coming, the indicator shows green color.

Could this requirement be solved by using KPI and Pivot Table?

I have been spend a few weeks to full fill this requirement. Hope someone can help me to solve this problem.Smiley Sad

Power bi Embedded static dashboards

$

I could use pbi embedded to show a dashboard in my Android App.

This dashboard is updadted once per day, and the costumer doesn't interact with it. So the dashboard is static.

The problem with pbi embedded is the cost that is incompatible with our business model (30 X $0,05 per month)

Is there a solution that is free or cheaper for Android ?

Thanks,

Scheduled data refresh for PowerBI service (preview)

$

I am testing the new preview option for the PowerBI service data connection.

I have created a "Mastewr File" with the desired data model, and started creating new reports connecting to this data file.

This "Master" PBIX is sourcing data from an SQL databsase (offsite installation).  This has been published to the PowerBI online service.

Just wanted to know can this Mastewr file be refreshed using the personal/entreprise gateways? Currently I am finding the only way to refresh the data in the master file is to refresh the PBIX file via the desktop and then re-publish.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Hopefully I am using this correctly....

Using API as source, can't get all data

Hey guys,

Aim – Use Freshdesk’s API to build some reports.  Skill level – Rookie

I got to a point where I can load the data, convert to table etc but when I click on a visual, it was showing only 30 items.

Researched and found out about pagination. So I updated my source to: https://domain.freshdesk.com/api/v2/tickets?per_page=100. But it’s showing only 100 tickets now. Whilst I want all tickets.

Did a bit more digging on https://developers.freshdesk.com/api/#list_all_tickets, says for all tickets use this handle: /api/v2/tickets?updated_since=2015-01-19T02:00:00Z

And when I do, I’m back at 30 tickets on a page.

I feel like a vulture circling around the prize, with a blindfold. Can someone see where I’m going wrong?

Thank you for your time and brainspace,

Yaso

OneDrive & Power BI Unable to refresh the model because it references an unsupported da

$

Hello,

I am having trouble refreshing my data from OneDrive.

Basically, the workflow I followed is :

- I stored my data (6 CSVs) in a folder on OneDrive

- I then imported my data through "Import CSV" and gave my local path to the OneDrive folder.

- I built my report out of this data and saved my Power BI in the same folder.

- With the service Power BI I imported the project by "Get data", "From file" and then "From OneDrive for business". Import was succesful.

- Then I tried refreshing my dataset on the service but it fails with the error "There was an error when processing the data in the dataset." and the Data source error : "Unable to refresh the model (id=xxxxxx) because it references an unsupported data source."

Is this workflow viable ? I don't really know what path to give to access the data sources, may it come from here ?

I tried it before and thought it was working but now I'm stuck with old data.

Any help would be welcome !

Thx a lot

Fab~

Hi everybody,

since this morning I face a problem with Power BI Embedded.

I embedded a Dashboard into an Azure Hosted Web App and it worked fine for about 2 weeks until today. Unfortunately I didn't find any solution after searching the web for a few hours.

After logging in into the Power BI Account the dashboard is loaded, but the tiles don't show any data but this error message: "This visual does not support exporting".

 error.PNG

Currently I'm using the Power BI Pro 60 days trial.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks a lot,
