Hello Microsoft Community

I have two different Office accounts, one with PowerBI licence and one with OneNote (different entities in my organization). Is there a way to link my OneNote source into PowerBI Desktop by sharing it? I cannot seem to find how to link the files in Desktop or online version.

Any help/insight is appreciated!

Cannot retrieve data from SSAS with permission over specific Measures

Hi all,

I have a SQL Server Analysis Services Database running on-premises.

I created a Role, and specified only one measure that role can access:

Screenshot_8.jpg

If I use the Import mode when connecting to that cube, it works fine, I see data correctly under the measure where the permission is given, and I don't see data in other measures:

2.jpg

The problem is when I want to use Live Connection mode, I get the following error:

1.jpg

Also, it get stacked in that message, if I click on Cancel, the message keeps appearing over and over.

Can you help me? Does someone has a solution to this?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

This is the error code:

Power BI Embedded - Data Refresh

$

Hello,

we have created an embedded power bi report with analytical D365 F&O workspace. The report uses a custom aggregate measurement, which we've put in the entity store. I need a clarification on the report data refresh.  Embedded power BI reports use direct query, which means that they are updated in near real-time. Does the report data get updated automatically or does the data refresh rate need to be set from D365 F&O entity store page? Thanks for any help.

SharePoint Minimum Permissions

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help me please. What is the minimum permissions required in order to use SharePoint as a data source, can a user have read permissions to a SharePoint Online list and still be able to connect to this as a data source using Power BI desktop?

Thanks!

Create Visual to Export into Excel (without clicking the ellipses)

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a way to export data from a visual into excel (or print) WITHOUT clicking the ellipses. Long story short, my coworkers are getting confused when they have to click the three dots, export, save, etc. I was wondering if there is any other way to export to excel without going that route? I'd really like to create an "export button" of sorts using a visualization on the desktop that would allow users on the web dashboard to just press the button to export.

Has anyone developed something like this before? Are we just restricted to clicking the ellipses and exporting that way?

I really appreciate any advice!

Can connect to ODBC data with Excel but not with Power BI

$

I'm a new user.

I have a database with many tables. The database is created and updated with Clarion Topspped. I can easily read and create reports in Excel using an ODBC driver that has been installed on my Windows machine. I can also get data using Access. But the same workbook can't find the tables with Power Pivot, even though it says that the connection was successful, and Power BI Desktop won't connect at all (perhaps because it is trying to write to the database). It is very frustrating to be able to connect easily with Excel and Access and to be completely stymied by Power Pivot and Power BI Desktop. Surely this is not a new phenomenon, but I"m not seeing others with the same question, so maybe I'm just asking wrong.

Real time connection to MySQL database

Hi, is it possible to get real time data from a MySQL database? I would like an update of my reports/dashboards with fresh data at least every 5 min and all options I can see is for me to set this manually, which would be a handful.

I could probably get along with refreshing every 5 min during working hours (8 am - 5 pm).

I use Power BI Pro and I have an gateway installed on one of my local servers with access to the MySQL database.

Any help would be much appreciated Smiley Happy

Issue Pulling Datasets from Google Analytics

$

Hello,

I have successfully linked my Power BI account to Google Analytics, but suddenly it wouldn't allow me to pull any additional datasets from the GA application. Prior to this, I was able to pull data from GA with no issue.

When selecting the account, this is the message I started receiving when attempting to pull data from a GA account:

Screen Shot 2018-11-29 at 4.09.50 PM.png

The full message is "The key matched more than one row in the table"

I have tried logging out/in by reseting the GA authentication

I have restarted Power BI, my PC, and started a fresh sheet attempting to pull the data

I tried from a different PC

I tried pulling data from a different GA account

I also tried to pull the data from the website version of Power BI to no avail. It is showing (Blank) for all results.

image.png

Hoping someone can help me understand why data is not successfully pulling. My account definitely has access to the account in question.

Thank you for anyone who may be able to assist!

Dataset Refresh Timeout with SQL server

$

Hi there

Wondering if someone can help me:

We are having an issue with refreshing our dataset that sources data from an SQL server.

Looking at our graphs on Azure we can see that as soon as we refresh the dataset on PBI, our memory consuption goes up, remains constant for a while and then starts to spike until it eventually timesout:  https://ibb.co/1J9XBp3

If I refresh the data locally on PBI desktop and publish (overwriting the dataset), then it is successful. The problem seems to come in with refreshing on the PBI site.

I have a theory that there might be a problem with some of our data (and the query not being able to correctly cast the erroneous data). Would this cause PBI memory to spike, as it tries to run the query?

This is a part of our query, where I think the problem may lie:

let
    Source = Sql.Database("name.database.windows.net",
[Query="select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source#(lf)UNION ALL#(lf)
select * from source",
CreateNavigationProperties=false]),
    #"Removed Columns" = Table.RemoveColumns(Source,{"fruitsize_avg"}),
    #"Filtered Rows2" = Table.SelectRows(#"Removed Columns", each ([contextref] <> "hs_name")),
    #"Removed Duplicates" = Table.Distinct(#"Filtered Rows2", {"rid"}),
    #"Parsed JSON" = Table.TransformColumns(#"Removed Duplicates",{{"totals", Json.Document}}),

    #"Added item Index" =
        Table.TransformColumns(
            #"Parsed JSON",
            {{"totals",
              each List.Transform(
                        List.Zip({_,
                                    List.Transform(
                                        {1..List.Count(_)},
                                        each [Index = _])}),
                        each _{0}&_{1}),
              type list}}),
    #"Expanded totals" = Table.ExpandListColumn(#"Added item Index", "totals"),
    #"Expanded totals1" = Table.ExpandRecordColumn(#"Expanded totals", "totals", {"total", "samples", "value", "Index"}, {"total", "samples", "value", "Index"})
in
    #"Expanded totals1"

Alternatively, are there other possible reasons for why the memory consumption would spike during a dataset refresh - causing it to fail/timeout?

Thank you

Kind regards

, one of the feature with our current report is the user is able to save or scheduled the saved search to be delivered to the user account.

Would you able to do some research and find out whether this is possible?

What I found is it is impossible at the moment with PBI Embedded report, but you might find something J

On Premesis Data Gateway Error Oracle

I have been working remotely with a client for deployment of some Power BI reports. I am trying to help with setting up their data gatway, to connect with their Oracle database. After some initial problems with getting a 64 bit oracle client set up on the server (where Power BI desktop 32 bit has been successfully connecting to the same data source), their database administrator informed me that "instead of installing the 64-bit client I now only installed the 64-bit ODAC components". Now on attempting to set up the data source on the gateway, we are receiving the following error

Power BI error.png

As this side of oracle isn't really my area of expertise, and I'm pretty new to Power BI, I wondered if anyone could help - is it likely to be because the 64-bit client still isn't installed that they are receiving this error? Or is it now a different problem that needs to be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

We are using the Salesforce Survey tool, It creates standard salesforce objects. These are viewable in the dataloader app from salesforce, as will as various 3rd party tools. Usually you can see all the standard objects in salesforce in the get data, but in powerbi you can't (you also can't in excel or access) I want to stress because it has come up before in questions, these are not custom objects, these are standard salesforce object, they are:

has anyone else run across this problem, is powerbi just not upto date?

Pull Data From D365 FO to Power BI

Hello,

I would like to create reports using data from D365 Production Environment. I created reports in DEV environment using SQL connection, but I am unable to do this for Prod.

I was able to connect to Prod using Odata feed but it does not give me access to all tables (Ex: SalesTable).

Is there any way to connect to Prod tables directly? or is it possible to migrate reports from test to prod?

Thanks in advance.

Cannot get queries on gateway logs

I am following this video and article on how to log the queries that pass through an on-premises data gatway:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem-tshoot#reviewing-slow-performing-queries

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=21&v=IJ_DJ30VNk4

I have everything setup as explained but I am not getting any entries with any of the activity types MGEQ, MGEO, or MGEM. I am running the Nov 2018 version of the gateway and I have restarted the service several times.

Any clues? Thanks.

How to switch between datasources using gateways?

Hi all,

What I want to do:
I want to be able to switch my reports data between gateways because I have one gateway with test data and another with actual production data and I want to be able to switch between them using the refresh schedule button in the dataset section.

What I did:
Install the gateway (G1 and G2) on both machine. Both DB (SQL Server) have the same name and structure. Only the table content is different. I added both gateways in the manage gateways menu. Each one in his own cluster and both have the "Connection successfull" message at the top.

Then, I created a report in Power BI desktop, using a dataset from G1 and published it.

What is happening:
If I go in the dataset section, the click on the schedule refresh button, in the gateway connection section, I see both gateways but is says that G2 is "Not configured correctly". Clicking on the arrow shows: SqlServer{"server": "G1.xxx.local", "database": "name_of_database"}

If I click on the "Add to gateway" link, it will go back to the gateways and prefil the fields but WHY is it filling the server URL from G1? What is the point of creating another gateway if both are using the same server?!?

Can't connect to Sharepoint Online using PowerBI Service

When I connect to SharePoint online from PowerBI Desktop I have no problem. However, when I try to connect to a list in SharePoint Online from PowerBI Service I can not find the option. I'm talking about creating a new data source located in SharePoint Online, I'm not talking about refreshing an existing source.

Somebody can help me? Thanks in advance!

Possible to load SQL table data into a flow or SPO list?

I saw that PBI now has those data flow features.

Is there anyway I can use those to query my SQL server (which PBI already talks to with my data gateway) and then push those rows into an SPO list?

My goal is to load our product table into an SPO list to use for lookups.  Currently people are free hand typing in product SKUs and...it's an awful mess Smiley Happy

If I could load the SKU and the prod description into an SPO list that would be perfect.

The catch is we don't use SQL Azure so...I would need to source it from our SQL server.
