Connecting to stored procedure with date parameters

$

Hi,

I am new to Power BI.

I have a stored procedure which I connect to through Excel.  I am trying to do the same in BI but I get the below error message:

Details: "Microsoft SQL: Incorrect syntax near '?'."

The stored procedure needs the date parameter to run, so I understand the error, however how do I set the date parameters in BI?

I am hoping you can help.

Many thanks

Rory

Error 400 - Odata connection error

Hello all,

We have a connection to our Navision database with OData using Web Services.

However since last week we're getting the following error:

Error 400 - Bad Request OData.png

The used URL is:

http://10.0.0.XX:7048/LIVE/OData/Company('[Navision Company code]%20-%20XX%20[Company city]')/GL_export

Also tried a shortened and expanded URL

Trying to connect via Windows credentials.

We tried many things including restarting the server, compiling the data but all didn't help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we can't continue implementing Power BI right now.

Thank you.

Chris

Multi dimensional JSON file to one flat table

I have a multi-dimensional table from a json source that I'm trying to convert into one flat table. I can expand the columns up to a point, and still have tables within rows as in the below:

Example 1.PNG

The problem I'm having is that when I expand these tables e.g. in the parent column, it opens them up as another seperate table. See example below:

Capture 3.PNG

Is there a way to automatically expand these tables within the original query instead of having each table expand into a new seperate table view?

Automatically Refresh data with predefined queries

Hi,

I have used Power BI Desktop Queries to access and transform multiple Excel files stored locally. I have published the report and shared it within my organization. Now I want to store the source data either in SharePoint or OneDrive for Business.  How can I make sure that they are refreshed automatically with my predefined queries and without having my laptop to be online all the time?

The background is that team members should be able to change the source data having my queries automatically do the transformation.

We're using the PowerBI Premium in our organization but single users dont have the Pro Version...

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

Johannes

Data from SQL->Warehouse>Star Schema>Online PBI Service to PBI Desktop / Report

Hi, all. I am looking for options to edit data in PBI for a report, am not 100% knowledgeable and not a developer and would like to ask for your advice.

This is the situation: our developer set up a data extraction path from SQL - Data Warehouse though Star Schema to PowerBI Online Services. The reason this has been done in this way is that the amount of data is huge so we need to be able to only extract data for a specific client / time period.

In PBI online services the data shows as a report rather than dataset whych can be seen as tables... I am used to working with excel and access as data sources, can see the data, edit queries, add calculations and measures etc. But in this instance I cannot edit data or use it to create new tables/measures.... I can just summarise it and the capabilities are limited.

So my questions:

Is there a way around it for me to enable me to edit data, create tables, etc....?

Should the data be prepared for PBI using a different method?

I can try and answer any questions you may have regarding the above if need be. Please let me know,

Thank you

Alla

PowerBI DirectQuery to Kerberised Impala + bug

Hi

Does PowerBI support DirectQuery for Impala sitting on a kerberised hadoop cluster?

From what I can understand the answer is no (referring to: https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/15949948-support-kerberos-authentication-for-impala-connect) but I figured I would check here.

On a related note, I have tested on a non-kerberised Impala, and with DirectQuery I am able to see the list of all tables, but as soon as I try and connect I get an error saying ("We cannot convert the value null to Type Table"). Is this a known bug?

ODBC connection is very slow with MongoDB

Hi.

I am using an ODBC DNS to connect to the MongoDB BI connector to retrieve data from a collection (my collection has 5,000,000 entries) to PowerBI.

It works, but it is veeeery slow, and this is because it goes in 2 steps:

1) It displays "Waiting for dns=MyCustomMongoDNS" and stays like this almost 10mn

2) It actually loads the data (I can see the line counter increasing), and this step is going at an acceptable speed for an ODBC connection.

Does anyone know what is the ODBC driver doing at step 1 ???

Thanks!!

Using a single datasource for multiple web queries

I am querying CRM Online data. The standard oData connector is inefficient and limited in its functionality so I have been using the Web Api ( the "web" source under the Get Data Menu).

I am getting data from about 15 entities this way, but now I have credentials for 15 seperate data sources to manage.

Can anyone advise if it is possible to consolidate these into 1 data source to make it more manageable?

Getting total of users and migrated users in a domain within AD

Hello,

So I am trying to get the data of the total of users in our company's Active Directory. I used the AD connector, but there are a bunch of domains and tables where some are empty and others aren't. Is there a generic column or table that presents information on the amount of of users in a company's AD? We are migrating users to O365 and I wanted to see if I could get the total of employees and along that those that are migrated for a progress dhasboard.

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you!

Number of mashup engine containers

Hello everybody,

After the January gateway update (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/on-premises-data-gateway-january-update-is-now-available/) and the possibility of controlling the number of mashup engine containers I have trouble figuring what applies to my circumstances, which are:

- I currently develop reports against SSAS tabular models through live connection.

-These models are deployed in an Azure machine; let's call it A.

-My on-premises data gateway is installed on another Azure machine which only holds an SSIS instance; lets call it B.

-My published Power BI reports connect to A through B gateway.

My question is this: if I tweak the number of mashup engine containers, will it affect the resources of A or B? B is the one with the gateway installed, but it will be A resources the ones used to query the different models and answer the viewer's demands.

Also, A and B don't have the same amount of cores, so I don't know which number I must employ as guidance to establish the MashupDefaultPoolContainerMaxCount value as the article says.

Thank you very much in advance!

Sales Force Data connection updates

I have built a powerBi report and Dashboard using data from saleasforce and Excel spreadsheets. I can refresh and in the PowerBi desktop app manually no problem. However I was lead to belive reading the Power documentation that the salesforce should autmatically be the latest information without refreshing? This is a larger issue now that I have published my Dashboard to the management team who are saying the information is out of date from salesforce. The only way I can fix this is to refresh and then publish from my power Bi desktop. Then all is good again until next time and i am manually do the refresh and publish on a daily basis.

I was wondering is there a pre-requisite with in my user account for salesforce to allow this automatic update as manually I have no issues?

Thx

Baz

Can not install (recommended) version of data gateway, only personal mode.

Hello,

I'm trying to install the Data Gateway using the recommended settings. But all I receive is that it cannot install and it leads me to a 404 web-page. There is no more info than that. I've seen other posts where they receive error messages regarding uninstalling a version, but I can't simply install it. I can however install the personal mode. Why?

 EDIT: Adding some pictures.

Zuora

When using the native Zuora integration, more than 50% of the imported dates are "NULL".

Example: Rate Plan Charge Effective Start Date is "NULL" in about 3000 objects. (We have about 4500 subscriptions)

In the original data (observable through the zuora UI) "NULL" does not occur as a value for these dates.

I am thus unable to filter the data the way I need.

workitem parent parent

Hi

I'm trying to get the grand parent of a work item in VSTS. So I want to get the epic work item from a user story but it's giving me this error:

The query specified in the URI is not valid. The Analytics Service doesn't support key or property navigation like WorkItems(Id) or WorkItem(Id)/AssignedTo. If you getting that error in PowerBI, please, rewrite your query to avoid incorrect folding that causes N+1 problem

Any idea how I can solve it? I've seen the comments here (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/vsts/report/extend-analytics/odata-query-guidelines) but I can't make sense of it.

Thanks

Web Query URL with "?" (question mark)

Hi,

I'm accessing some XML data via Web Query, and I have a problem with the question mark in my URL.

The following expression works pretty fine:

let
Source = Xml.Tables(Web.Contents("https://play.dhis2.org/2.28/api/categoryOptionCombos.xml"))
in
Source

However this one:

let
Source = Xml.Tables(Web.Contents("https://play.dhis2.org/2.28/api/categoryOptionCombos?pageSize=225.xml"))
in
Source

 is returning the error:

DataFormat.Error: Xml processing failed. Either the input is invalid or it isn't supported. (Internal error: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.)
Details:
Binary

Both URLs are valid and they work outside Power BI.

Any ideas how can I have my problem solved?

Best regards,

Miszel

Get Data | Connect to a Shared List

Is it possible to extract data out of a share list (i.e., a co-worker shared his onde drive folder to me with write-access. I then grab data from that folder via the Get Data functionality.

Do we maintain query control on dataset shared with Client.

$

Good morning,

I have to admit I am not a current Power BI user, although I have extensive SQL and SSRS knowledge.

One of my clients has requested that we provide him with, I quote:

" I would like to get XX Data. We have an approach of pulling all data to our Power BI Tool, including Service Now data.

We just need hooks into your data to pull it into Service-Now.

Are there integrations hooks into your data?"

Now;  I understand where he is going and what he is asking for, but this is not something we have done before.

What I would like to know; before we move forward;

  • What is the proper term for "hooks", is he just talking integration?
  • When we provide a client access, can this be done through a SQL Query that we control, and can thus update on our side, without client interaction?
    • My thought: if the client has "Read only" access to a shared query, this is no different than providing him access to a report, which would take away quite some concerns.     If this is not controllable, we would grant this client access to all our clients and company data, which, needless to explain, can't happen.
  • To accomplish this; what version/license of PowerBI will we require, if at all necessary.

Thank you in advance,

-Rudy
